Plants are magical things. Their forms, textures, and colours are endlessly fascinating to me. I particularly love heirlooms - flowers, fruits and vegetables with a history, a story.

I have been creating botanical art since 1992, working both in watercolor and in
coloured pencil. Heirloom fruits and flowers are a particular passion with me and I grow many unusual antique plants in my own garden.
My works have been included in nine botanical art exhibits at
Filoli and in the
American Society of Botanical Artists exhibitions "A Natural Perspective", currently on display at the Phoenix Art Museum, and "Beauty of Botany", held in Seattle in October, 2006. Other juried and invitational shows which have included my work are the "A Botanical Celebration", July, 2009, at the
Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, Maine, and "Northwest Exhibition of Botanical Art" at the 2003 Portland Home & Garden Show. I was also very pleased to have one of my pieces,
"Masterwort", chosen to be part of
BLOSSOM - The Art of Flowers. This show opened at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in 2007 and traveled to other venues around the country until the fall of 2009.
In the autumn of 2002, I was selected to participate in a show entitled the Art of Saving Oaks in Sausalito, CA. This educational show about Sudden Oak Death Syndrome featured botanical art depicting host species as well as paintings and photographs highlighting the beauty of California's endangered oak woodlands. Believing that this important exhibit needed a wider audience, I helped to bring the show to Filoli in 2003 and to UC Santa Cruz Arboretum in 2004. I also wrote an article about the show for
Pacific Horticulture magazine.
I have studied extensively with master botanical art instructor, Anne-Marie Evans and with the late Charles Stasek, a scientific illustrator and marine biologist. I have also taken master classes with such well known botanical artists as Margaret Best, Lizzie Sanders, Susan Fisher, Jenny Phillips. I am currently enrolled in the
botanical art certifical program at Filoli. I am a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and
Northern California Society of Botanical Artists, the Botanical Art Society of Australia and the AME Painting Group in England.
My work is included in several private collections and have appeared in print. Some of my original paintings are available for
purchase and most pieces are available as giclée prints or
cards. Please contact me

Birkett House was built in 1904 by Joseph Birkett, an English
stonemason who came to California to work on the construction of
Stanford University. At the time Birkett built his home, this area was
part of the City of Mayfield, which was later annexed by Palo Alto.
For more than 20 years, Birkett House has been home to Pria
Graves, botanical artist, garden designer, and community activist.
Birkett House Design is the name under which she does botanical art and
garden design.
