Birkett House Design - Botanical Art

The botanical art tradition combines science and art. Botanical artists seek to understand the structure of plants and to communicate this knowledge to their audience in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
                              American Society of Botanical Artists

I have been creating botanical art since 1992, working both in watercolor and in Prismacolor, a wax-based coloured pencil. Heirloom fruits and flowers are a particular passion with me and I grow many unusual heirlooms in my own garden.

I am very excited to announce that one of my pieces, "Masterwort", is included in BLOSSOM - The Art of Flowers. This show opened March 17, 2007 at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and will tour to other venues around the country for the next two years.

My works have been included in six botanical art exhibits at Filoli and a new piece will be included in their 9th annual show, opening June 21st 2007. Other juried and invitational shows which have included my work are the American Society of Botanical Artists "Beauty of Botany" exhibtion held in Seattle in October, 2006, "The Art of Saving Oaks", and the "Northwest Exhibition of Botanical Art" at the 2003 Portland Home & Garden Show.

Some of my original paintings are available for purchase and most pieces are available as giclée prints or cards. Please contact me by email or by telephone at 650.493.2153 to inquire.
